It’s definitely an interesting time that we’re living in and all going through together due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis. I hope you and your pets are all keeping yourselves productive as well as staying mentally, physically, and emotionally sharp. This is definitely a turning point in our US history, not just within our economy but also our lives. Because, life - the way we're "used to how things are" is going to change too! It has definitely thrown off a lot of people’s normal routine, but it doesn’t have to be! We are all in the same boat and riding the turbulent waves to whatever comes next.

Instead of dwelling and panicking, find ways to manage your time wisely or pick up a new skill or hobby. There are so many FREE online resources right now to keep yourself engaged. The key is to have a consistent routine, so your life still feels somewhat normal. If you have pets in the household, what a great way to bond with them even more. Pets have always helped us, but they are helping us more than ever especially being quarantine at home.

Here are 5 simple tips to help stay productive during quarantine:

1. Get up and get dressed
Start your day waking up at the same time and get dressed (even if you are not working) . This will help start your day off right with the right mind set. Pj’s and lounge wear are strongly associated with sleep and lounging, so it’s not surprising that wearing them all day keeps up in a lax mode. For some people, the psychological effects of wearing pj’s can can disrupt our productivity.

2. Have a game plan of your day
What will you be doing today? For those who aren’t working, try to stay productive and keep a consistent routine of your day. Spring clean the entire house, read a book, take an online class to educate yourself, cook a new recipe, pick up a new hobby, etc. If you always wanted to explore and experiment other options, this is the best time. Right now with all the extra time we have at home, we can finally manage all the things we’ve been holding off on or not having enough hours in a day to get them done. Make each day count.

3. Call or video chat with friends and loved ones
Not being able to see your family, friends, and loved ones is difficult, especially for those who are extroverted. Humans are social creatures. We miss the interaction with others, going out, and dinning at a nice cafe. Thanks to technology, we can call with a press of a button and video chat our friends and loves ones near or far away. As social media increases, we can all stay connected in other parts of the world.

4. Eat, drink, and exercise well
Fuel your body with nutritional foods instead of junk food. Without good nutrition, your body is more prone to fatigue, illness, and poor performance. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Combine with physical activity, your diet can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight. If you are feeling anxious or stir crazy, go on a small walk around your neighborhood for a change of scenery. Take breaks and naps when needed to feel more rejuvenated. Getting enough rest will result in a better performance.

5. Don’t forget your pets
Your pets may be wondering why their owners are always at home now. I’m sure they are so happy to have you around more. Having a pet right now is the best remedy for this quarantine. Pets have always helped people get through the tough times, and now more so than ever. Give your pets extra love, attention, and walks to keep their routine consistent as well. Just like humans, pets also need a consistent routine.

Stay safe and be well my friends!
